Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial championship series after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.

Behind by two runs, Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh, leading the Toronto squad in MLB to a four games to three triumph in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling."

Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, placing him third all-time trailing only Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another player in the world that I want up in that spot except for Springer with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" following his team's loss at their home ballpark, but praised their efforts in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.

Toronto's team claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
