Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
