Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
