A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country battling persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the 40-year-old presenter was accosted by three suspects, with one shot at him before running away.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but fell down across the street.
